Facebook Setting Sights on Indian SMEs

The online digital space in India just got a lot more competitive.  Google recently started a service for Indian SMEs to get a free online website with the ” India Get Your Business Online” in association with HostGator. A wide amount of promotion was done online and radio expecting a huge response. It gives an opportunity for SMEs to go global and online.

In a latest development reported by Financial Express on March 20th , industrial body FICCI has joined hands with Facebook to provide online marketing educational resources to Small and Medium Enterprises in India. The initiative will provide educational resources, tutorials on how to build and engage via Facebook brand page and free advertising credit on the Facebook platform.


Small and Medium Enterpises are always the growth engines of economy all over the globe. The Indian SMEs is a completely untouched market potential yet. Though there has been initiatives by Google Adwords by sending out Rs 1500 discount coupons to the inbox of the various SMEs. But with time it gather rust as Indian SMEs wanted a platform for expansion and a website is the best way to reach out globally. Selling them coupons to buy Google Adwords wont answer their requirement.

Facebook – presently in its pre – IPO quite period had made more than $3.16 billion by digital advertising in Year 2011. The number of subscribers in India stand the second highest in the world. So, Facebook has an opportunity to be a platform to reach such a huge market potential to double its revenues. Besides, Indian SMEs have matured to the concept of digital marketing especially social media marketing.

It seems Facebook is trying to eat into the revenues and in the future except some more such strategies by both the global giants..
